It’s a fuzzy old world!

I like this picture. It reminds me of Spirograph from when I was a kid. It’s pretty complex too but still nowhere near conveying the sheer complexity of a “typical” complex business system…even a relatively small one!

“Why not?” I hear you cry. Well, let me attempt to, briefly, explain.

Visualise each red dot as an activity or process undertaken within the business or, indeed, as a series of key participants in the company’s supply chain. Look at all the interconnections

Even when a business decision is pretty clear cut, from the assessment of the known facts – quantitative and qualitative – and the outcome is yes or no, that doesn’t tell us about how much, when, who, what else is affected by the decision or to what extent..

This can be (is in scientific circles!) described as fuzziness. Too many potential outcomes to even begin to calculate.

This is just one very good reason why forecasting and risk modelling are such precarious pastimes, even in a relatively stable economy and downright dangerous when the economic climate is unpredictable and turbulent.

Complexity can, very quickly, run out of control within a business and create the kind of risks that can only be detected, managed and monitored by asking the right questions. That’s what we do at Ontonix UK Ltd.

But it isn’t just about gaining understanding and survival for managing business complexity improves your bottom-line.

Survival is crucial and no-one can be considered a “victim” if they have not taken an opportunity to change things that are wrong or ignored the inevitable signs that things are heading in the wrong direction…I was alarmed to read how many chances some SME’s (in particular) take with their business. It doesn’t have to be that way and, in reality, CAN’T be that way in the prevailing economic climate.

You must be pretty excited then that help is at hand? No? Well, how about if I told you that this isn’t a license for me to start “taking advantage” of firms who understand the concept and are concerned about the impact upon their business.

Because we do it for next to nothing, on-line. We even provide you with an excel template to make it really, really easy.

Complexity self-rating for “notahelluvalot”.
